When joining an organization, what are some of the most important things you look for? What are some of the intangibles that let you know it is both a professional and inviting culture?
According to Melissa Dailmer in her HBR.com article, “There are three elements to a culture: behaviors, systems, and practices, all guided by an overarching set of values. A great culture is what you get when all three of these are aligned, and line up with the organization’s espoused values.”
Here are some of our thoughts on how to create an inviting and professional culture.
1. Ensure that your company exemplifies and lives out its values in an authentic way.
2. View your team members as valuable, where insights are welcome, important, and necessary to the success of your work.
3. Create a culture that knows how to celebrate. Celebrate the wins and celebrate the failures as learning opportunities.
4. Set high expectations that are clear, well-communicated, and supported.
Creating an environment of belonging will help retain your talent. They will feel wanted and taken care of because of how you view and value them, and how you encourage and support quality work.
