Leadership is a journey filled with many stops along the way. What does your leadership journey look like for 2020? We want to encourage you to get off to a great start with a plan that you can sustain and enjoy throughout the year. Here are three ideas to incorporate into your 2020 leadership journey.
- Learn something new: Identify one topic or area that you would like to learn more about in 2020. It could be to increase business acumen in a specific area, learn a new language, try a new hobby, or attend a class. When we provide ourselves with the opportunity to try something new, we are creating possibilities that did not exist in our past. While the learning process can vary in difficulty, we tend to experience renewed energy and excitement. What would you like to learn in 2020?
- Mentor: We all need mentors throughout our career, not just at the start. Mentors provide us with information and insights to move forward. Look for mentors with different experiences that can provide a different viewpoint. Mentors can see our potential, even when we can’t see it in ourselves. Who can you ask to be your mentor in 2020?
- The value of self-reflection: Throughout the year, set aside time on your calendar for self-reflection. So many times, we are busy trying to get through our task list, attending meetings, and juggling professional and personal responsibilities. There seems to be no time to pause and reflect. Self-reflection gives us the opportunity to celebrate what we have accomplished and refocus on what is most important moving forward. Setting a realistic timeframe to pause, reflect, and refocus is energizing and motivating.
In 2020, focus on your leadership journey and create a plan that you can sustain throughout the year. Try something new, find a mentor, and make time for self-reflection. Our team looks forward to working with you in 2020. Keep us posted on your leadership journey. LEAD TO THE MAX!SM
